Shhh, can you keep a secret?

Hey lovely readers!

Firstly, thank you to every single one of you who helped me stay grounded after the incredible response to my teaching post, yet again. I actually found it even more overwhelming the second time around and seeing my face in 5 newspapers was completely beyond my expectation.

I was actually approached by live TV and national radio but unfortunately I was just not ready for that!

I did appear on the Vanessa Feltz show, well my blog post did! She read it all out to her audience and I was the focus of her phone in!!  Absolutely amazing!

I have never heard of a blog post go viral twice, on two separate occasions, but I am now proud that my words have touched so many.

To this day, I am still getting messages from people worldwide and believe it or not, I have had 4 people unknown to me who have recognised me.

This has definitely been my 5 minutes of fame although those who know me personally, will know that was never my intention when I started writing that post, nearly a year ago.

So thank you to all who have read, commented, been touched by or influenced by it.

——————————————

But for now, I really wanted to share a little secret that I have been harbouring for a few weeks now.

It is the reason why my blog posts are no longer published 4 times a week.

It is an incredible part of my life, right now.

I am writing two maths books that will be published by a well known publisher in the near future.

One book will be a year 5 pupil book for children that could be used in school or at home and the second will be a teacher resource to accompany a teacher’s work on mathematical reasoning.

To date, it has taken up much of spare time but it was too good an opportunity to turn down when I was approached by the publishers.

My absolute dream was to have a book published. It is perhaps not the children’s fiction book that I had dreamed of but it is certainly my words in a book that people can buy, that I had dreamed of.

I will of course let you all know when it is published, especially if you have children that are around 9 and 10 years old, I hope both you and they find it useful. And if you are teacher, enjoy! It will all be there for you.

And when the final piece of the book has been signed off by the editor, my lovely blog will then be in safe hands again.

Until then, T’arh!

And thanks for reading.

  2. How fantastic Ali! I did wonder what had happened to your blogs when they dried up. I love reading them. As a retired primary teacher for 30 years, and maths teacher in a secondary school for 10 years, I can’t wait to see your books. It is so hard to motivate children who are switched off to maths. I know first hand because I was one of these children for many years. You try to hide your inadequacies for fear of being ostrecised and bullied. I just didn’t get it at all. I developed a love of maths when I started teaching and could relate to the children who were struggling. I still can’t believe that I ended up teaching it up to year 11 and loved it too! I have been asked if I would consider tutoring children who are struggling with different aspects of the subject but am still looking for resources that inspire me to do it. Maybe yours, Ali, will fit the bill. I will be very interested to see them when they are released.
    Good luck and well done
